Cyprus short-term rental regulation and SDEP status
Cyprus has an official self-service accommodation registration service for sharing-economy villas, houses, and apartments, with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism as responsible department. A SEMICeu SDEP issue raises licence-dependent registration-number lifecycle questions from a Cyprus context.
What this means
Cyprus has a visible registration route for self-service sharing-economy accommodation, including villas, houses, and apartments.
The service grants registration in the register of self-catering accommodation and a special label/registration number.
Implementation status
The responsible department is the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
Public material frames the service as registration of self-service accommodation establishments rather than a complete Regulation 2024/1028 SDEP package.
SEMICeu SDEP issue #77, raised from a Cyprus context, asks whether an operating licence may be a precondition for issuing a registration number and whether registration numbers may be revoked where the operating licence is withdrawn or cannot be issued.
Technical interface
An online public application service exists through gov.cy.
No public Cyprus-specific SDEP OpenAPI documentation, source code, sandbox, or platform onboarding process is currently available.
The registration-number base is relevant for future platform-side registration validation and SDEP activity reporting.
The licence question means validation may need lifecycle states such as licence pending, valid, withdrawn, or refused if Cyprus implements that dependency.
Open questions
Whether Cyprus will publish a public SDEP/OpenAPI package or registration-number validation endpoint.
How operating-licence status will affect registration-number issuance, suspension, revocation, and platform checks.
